International Restrictions:

*Entry rules: Madagascar has suspended all routine international flights and private flights until further notice. Cruise ships are not currently permitted to berth in Madagascar’s ports. To enter Madagascar you will need to provide proof of a negative coronavirus test taken within 72 hours of travel. You will also be required to take a test at Ivato International Airport and to self-isolate at your own expense until the test result is received (typically 4 – 5 days). If the test is positive, you may be required to go to a state-mandated facility for treatment. Internal Restrictions:

*Travel in Madagascar: You should comply with any additional screening measures put in place by the authorities, including at city checkpoints and Ivato International Airport. Public transport is not available in the Analamanga region (including the capital Antananarivo) on Saturdays and Sundays due to lockdown restrictions.

Domestic flights between Nosy Be and the mainland of Madagascar and within the mainland have been suspended. Domestic travel to/from the regions of Analamanga (including the capital Antananarivo), Antsinanana, Anosy, Haute Matsiatra, Vakinankaratra and Sava is not permitted.

*Accommodation: Some hotel and guesthouse accommodation remains open, although many businesses catering to tourists are currently closed. You should contact your accommodation provider for more information.

*Public spaces and services: On 3 April 2021, the Government of Madagascar declared a national Health State of Emergency. On 2 May the State of Emergency was extended for a further 15 days.

It is mandatory to wear a face mask in all public places, including in shops, parks and streets. Gatherings of more than 50 people are not permitted. Many schools and universities are closed. Business opening hours and public transport operations are subject to change at short notice, and some venues remain closed or operate with limited capacity. A curfew from 9pm to 4am is in place in the regions of Analamanga (including the capital Antananarivo), Antsinanana, Anosy, Haute Matsiatra, Sava and Vakinankaratra.

For the Analamanga region only (including the capital Antananarivo) lockdown restrictions are in place on Saturdays and Sundays. Only essential services will operate, including medical facilities and pharmacies, petrol stations and banks. Public transport is not available, and retail, supermarkets and places of worship are closed. Residents are encouraged to stay at home. Law enforcement officials will be on patrol. You should follow the guidance of local authorities, and avoid gatherings or demonstrations.
