Flight Restrictions

Airports in Nicaragua are closed.
– This does not apply to humanitarian flights with a flight authorization requested 72 hours prior to flight. The passenger manifest must be submitted with the request.

Quarantine

The Nicaraguan government has not officially imposed any quarantine policies.

Insurance
Certification

COVID-19 negative certification not required / not known.

Screening measures (thermal screening, questionnaires, interviews) being implemented at the airport. Passengers required to fill out a health form.

Vaccination

Yellow fever (2018)
Country requirement at entry: a yellow fever vaccination certificate is required for travellers aged 1 year
or over arriving from countries with risk of yellow fever transmission.
WHO vaccination recommendation: no

Malaria (2018)
Malaria risk due to P. vivax (79.2%) and P. falciparum (20.8%) exists throughout the year in a number of
municipalities, mainly in Región Autónoma del Atlántico Norte, with sporadic transmission also reported in
Boaca, Chinandega, Jinoteca, Léon and Matagalpa. Cases are reported from other municipalities in the central
and western departments but the risk in these areas is considered to be very low or negligible. Risk due to P.
falciparum is high mainly in Región Autónoma del Atlántico Norte, specifically in the municipalities of
Rosita, Siuna, Bonanza, Puerto Cabezas and Waspán. No chloroquine-resistant P. falciparum reported.
WHO recommended prevention in risk areas: B in P. vivax risk areas; C in P. falciparum risk areas

    All flights are suspended. Airlines wishing to operate flights must request 72 hours in advance along with the passenger manifest. AeroMexico is the only international carrier still operating flights from Nicaragua. Aeromexico, United Airlines, Avianca Airlines and Copa Airlines have announced that they will resume operations from 4-8 June. Land border crossings with Costa Rica have been closed until further notice.
    Arriving travelers will be screened, and those showing symptoms will be quarantined.

    There are no official restrictions in place, however, on 14 May, the US embassy advised US citizens still in Nicaragua to prepare to shelter in place.
