Crossing Rules
  • Passengers are not permitted to enter Nicaragua.
  • This does not apply to nationals of Nicaragua.
  • Passengers are not permitted to enter Nicaragua unless they hold a negative Covid-19 PCR test certificate taken within 72 hours prior to arrival in Nicaragua.
  • Passengers displaying symptoms of Covid-19 will not be permitted to enter Nicaragua.
  • Nationals displaying symptoms of Covid-19 must quarantine on arrival in Nicaragua.

Flight Restrictions

Airports in Nicaragua are closed.
– This does not apply to humanitarian flights with a flight authorization requested 72 hours prior to flight. The passenger manifest must be submitted with the request.

Quarantine

No requirement.
There may be some screening procedures in place at borders. Immigration or airport officials in Nicaragua may require travellers to report if they have visited any countries significantly affected by COVID-19 and may request negative coronavirus tests. There are no official requirements for documentation related to COVID-19.

Insurance
Certification

COVID-19 negative certification required. There is currently a requirement to have a “negative for COVID-19” certificate.

Screening measures (thermal screening, questionnaires, interviews) being implemented at the airport. Passengers required to fill out a health form.

Vaccination

Yellow fever (2018)
Country requirement at entry: a yellow fever vaccination certificate is required for travellers aged 1 year
or over arriving from countries with risk of yellow fever transmission.
WHO vaccination recommendation: no

Malaria (2018)
Malaria risk due to P. vivax (79.2%) and P. falciparum (20.8%) exists throughout the year in a number of
municipalities, mainly in Región Autónoma del Atlántico Norte, with sporadic transmission also reported in
Boaca, Chinandega, Jinoteca, Léon and Matagalpa. Cases are reported from other municipalities in the central
and western departments but the risk in these areas is considered to be very low or negligible. Risk due to P.
falciparum is high mainly in Región Autónoma del Atlántico Norte, specifically in the municipalities of
Rosita, Siuna, Bonanza, Puerto Cabezas and Waspán. No chloroquine-resistant P. falciparum reported.

    International restrictions:

    Flights to and from Nicaragua are currently limited. There have been reports of the land borders being closed at short or no notice. There is currently a requirement to have a “negative for COVID-19” certificate.
    Because of the coronavirus pandemic, the authorities have announced that foreigners will be allowed to renew their tourist visas on a month-by-month basis. Extensions will be processed at migration offices throughout the country.     There are no specific travel restrictions currently in force in Nicaragua. You should follow precautionary health measures and keep up to date with information from your tour operator, transport or accommodation provider, and comply with measures introduced by the authorities. Social distancing measures and other safety precautions should be observed at all times.

AeroMexico is the only international carrier still operating flights from Nicaragua. Aeromexico, United Airlines, Avianca Airlines and Copa Airlines have announced that they will resume operations from 4-8 June. Land border crossings with Costa Rica have been closed until further notice.
    Arriving travelers will be screened, and those showing symptoms will be quarantined.
