13/05/20 launch of the contact tracing app called “VírusRadar” on 13 May 2020. With the use of this application; the users can provide information; after that they proved to be infected by COVID-19; for the relevant authorities on the people they have been closer than 2 metres for more than 20 minutes in the last 2 weeks. The app uses Bluetooth technology; and stores the anonymised data on the devices. The system is ready to use by epidemiological authorities.

01/09/2020 Hungarian citizens entering the country must be quarantined for 14 days. An exception to this is if they can credibly show two negative coronavirus (PCR) tests 48 hours apart.; From the 22/09/2020 Hungarian nationals returning to Hungary from abroad in passenger traffic are now required to retire to compulsory home quarantine or designated quarantine for 10 days instead of 14. Non-Hungarian nationals can enter the country only with permission and are also required to quarantine for 10 days; 23/06/2021: The following categories can enter Hungary without being subject to restrictions: a) those crossing the border in freight traffic b) persons holding diplomatic or a diplomatic service passport or a service passport for seamen c) persons reporting to entry holding a private passport or other travel document for the purpose of official visit (the purpose of official visit shall be proved with documents) d) those providing satisfactory proof while entering Hungary that they have undergone COVID-19 infection within 6 months prior to reporting to entry e) those providing their protection against the COVID-19 while entering Hungary with valid immunity certificate (issued according to the 60/2021 Government Decree) with the travel document indicated on the immunity certificate; and a person under his/her supervision who enters Hungary with him/her and has not reached the age of eighteen f) those providing their protection against the COVID-19 while entering Hungary with valid immunity certificate issued by a State specified by decree of the Minister responsible for foreign policy and a person under the age of 18 years under his/her supervision who enters Hungary along with him/her. In case of a Hungarian citizen; should a medical check not reveal the suspicion of infection and a) the Hungarian citizen has a home address or residence in Hungary; she/he will be placed into mandatory home quarantine for 10 days b) the Hungarian citizen not living abroad and in the absence of home address or residence in Hungary; she/he will be placed into in a quarantine designated by the competent epidemiological authority for 10 days c) the Hungarian citizen living abroad without home address or residence in Hungary; she/he will be placed into a quarantine or official home quarantine designated by the competent epidemiological authority for 10 days.; 27/11/2021 Hungarian nationals who arrive from southern Africa or have visited the region in the two weeks prior to returning home will have to quarantine for a period of 14 days. The restrictions apply to arrivals from Botswana; Eswatini; Lesotho; Mozambique; Namibia; the Republic of South Africa and Zimbabwe. Hungarians returning from the region will be required to enter a designated or official home quarantine regardless of whether or not they are suspected of having contracted the virus. The decree bans entry to all non-Hungarian citizens from the region with the exception of those given special permission by the authorities. Foreign nationals given permission to enter are still required to quarantine for a full 14 days even if they produce a negative PCR test.; 07/03/2022 Restrictions on entry into the territory of Hungary are lifted.;

COVID-19 travel restrictions have been lifted in Hungary. Travellers do not need to provide proof of vaccination, recovery from COVID-19 or a negative test result.

All travellers must complete a 10-day mandatory quarantine. The quarantine period may be shortened by taking a PCR test no less than 5 days after arrival, followed by a second PCR test no less than 48 hours after the first one. If the result of these tests is negative, the period of quarantine can end.
