Quarantine and test on arrival requirements

  • Unvaccinated passengers: Passengers must quarantine for 5 days after arrival and will be subject to a Covid-19 test at the end of this period.
  • Vaccinated passengers: Quarantine and test on arrival is not required for passengers who hold a Covid Certificate (EU Digital Covid Certificate, Green Pass, or Covid-19 Green Certificate) showing proof they have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 with an European Medicines Agency (EMA) approved vaccine between 14 days and 9 months prior to arrival (for passengers who received a booster dose, there is currently no predefined limit).
  • Other exempt passengers: 
    • Passengers holding a negative molecular Covid-19 test within 72 hours before arrival or an antigen Covid-19 test within 48 hours before arrival;
    • Passengers who hold a Covid Certificate showing proof they have recovered from Covid-19 within 180 days prior to travel from the first positive test;

    • Passengers aged younger than 6 years;
    • Crew members;
    • Passengers travelling to or from San Marino or the Vatican;
    • Passengers who will depart from Italy within 36 hours;
    • Cross-border workers entering and leaving the Italy for proven reasons of work or for returning to their home country;
    • Students travelling to study in a country other than their country of residence, to which they return daily or at least once a week.
  • The Green Certificate must be in Italian, English, French or Spanish, and is valid for 9 months after the completion of vaccination or valid between 11 days and 6 months after the first positive molecular test in case of proof of recovery from Covid-19.

Exit requirements

  • Unvaccinated passengers: Passengers aged 12 years and older departing Italy must hold a negative Covid-19 molecular or antigenic test result not older than 48 hours prior to departure.
  • Vaccinated passengers: Passengers departing Italy must hold a Covid Certificate (EU digital Covid Certificate, Green Pass, or Covid-19 Green Certificate); or proof they have received at least one dose of a European Medicines Agency (EMA) approved vaccine at least 14 days and not more than 9 months before departing from Italy.
  • Other exempt passengers: Passengers who hold a document showing they have previously recovered from Covid-19 within 11 days to 6 months prior to arrival.
